A special POCSO court in Alipore sentenced the accused to death in the case of sexual abuse and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Kolkata's Tiljala area. Delivering the verdict on Thursday, Judge Sudipta Bhattacharya described this crime as the rarest of the rare.
The Alipore Special Court has sentenced Alok Kumar Sah to death for heinous crimes under various sections. The conviction comes in the case registered on 26th March 2023, with Sah being the accused. Within 15 months of the charge sheet being submitted, the trial was brought to a conclusion, reflecting the efficiency of the legal and investigative process.
The judge's final pronouncement was the most severe penalty under Indian law, stating that Sah is "to be hanged from the neck until dead."
